# How ShopBack works in Australia - Canonical: https://savysaver.com.au/how-shopback-works/ - Updated: 17 September 2026 - Independent explainer. Not official ShopBack documentation. ShopBack is a cashback platform. Start a shopping trip in the app, on shopback.com.au, or with the browser extension, click through to a partner store, and complete checkout in the same session. If the trip tracks, a percentage of eligible spend comes back as Cashback in Australian dollars. The service is free for members. Partner stores fund Cashback via affiliate commissions. You still pay the store’s normal price. ShopBack Pay, a separate payments product, was discontinued in Australia from 25 March 2026. The cashback product continues. ## Tracking No click-through, no Cashback. Finish the order in the same session. Common failures: - Ad blockers, VPNs, or incognito windows blocking cookies - A coupon code not listed on ShopBack for that store - Clicking another cashback site after ShopBack (last-click usually wins) - Gift cards, some subscriptions, and pre-orders (often excluded) - A different device or browser than the one you clicked on Read the store’s ShopBack page for the live rate, caps and category exclusions. ## Pending vs confirmed Cashback usually appears as pending first. It becomes confirmed after the retailer’s return or cancellation window. Confirmed Cashback is the number that counts for a referral bonus that requires qualifying Cashback. Cancelled, exchanged or refunded orders do not qualify. Confirmed Cashback is paid in AUD. A typical bank transfer to an Australian-issued account lands within about 10 calendar days of confirmation. Check the app for current minimums and methods (bank transfer, PayID, gift cards). ## Extension and in-store The Chrome extension notices a partner site and lets you activate Cashback without returning to the homepage. The earning rule is the same as the app. Some merchants accept in-store receipt scans. Those offers have their own rates. ## Fees No sign-up fee, no cashback service fee, no bank-transfer withdrawal fee, as described in ShopBack’s public fee guide. ## Official sources - https://www.shopback.com.au/guide/basics/how-shopback-works - https://www.shopback.com.au/raf-content-system
