Solar Sharer in one paragraph
From 1 July 2026, the Solar Sharer Offer is described on our site as three hours of free electricity in the middle of the day for eligible smart-meter households in Default Market Offer regions. It is opt-in — it is not switched on automatically.
Who retailers must offer it to (as described on site)
Our power and gas hub summarises that retailers with more than 1,000 customers in DMO regions must offer it to eligible smart-meter households. Treat that as a starting point only.
Verify before you rely on eligibility detail
Retailer-size thresholds, exact free hours, tariff interaction and who counts as “eligible” can change. Confirm live terms with your retailer and check AER / official Solar Sharer materials before you opt in.
Do I need rooftop solar?
Site wording: homes with or without rooftop solar. Embedded networks are generally not included. Again — verify against official guidance and your retailer’s offer before you decide.
Should I opt in? Quick decision checks
- Can you move flexible daytime loads into the free midday window?
- Have you confirmed you have a smart meter and that your retailer offers Solar Sharer at your address?
- Have you asked for the exact free hours and how they interact with your current tariff (including any solar feed-in)?
- Are you in Victoria or an embedded network? Do not assume DMO-region Solar Sharer rules apply — confirm separately.
We do not invent dollar savings. If midday free power does not match how you use electricity, opting in may not help much.

- Contact your current retailer or check their Solar Sharer page.
- Confirm eligibility, free hours and any catch-up tariff changes in writing.
